In my despatch No. 73 of this series, dated the
15th. ultimo, on the subject of the "Fatshun" affair, I
reported that a satisfactory proclamation had boon issued
by the Viceroy and that negotiations with the Portuguese
Consul for a fresh enquiry had commenced.
On Decumber 17th. I telegraphed to you that sponkers
at a Self Government Society meeting had advocated a
general boycott of British steamers and that I had called
the Viceroy's attention to the fociety's disregard of his
orders. I have the honour to enclose copy and translation
of this despatch.
This agitation, as I reported to you in my telegram
No. 32, culminated on January 1st. in a boycott of the
steanor "Fatahan" by omissarios of the Self Government
Society.
